We got sh%tloads of responses and found out that above all the rest YOUR favourite local party bands were British India, The Presets, bLuejuice, Cut Copy, and Sparkadia. Then we went out and did our darndest to book those bands for you, so that you could party with them for New Years Eve.
As much as we love them, we found out that our indie (read small) budgets just couldn't afford The Presets and Cut Copy. BUT we were totally able to get Melbourne rrrrockers British India, rising stars Sparkadia, and everybody's favourite party band bLuejuice for you - as well as loads more awesome acts to make Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party the best New Years Eve event west of Central Station!!
Already boasting an impressive line up including The Teenagers from France, Frightened Rabbit from Scotland, Sparkadia, Yves Klein Blue, PhDJ, teenagersintokyo, Purple Sneakers DJs, The Jezabels, Soft Tigers Food Fight (DJ), Dept., and MC Gaff E (with DJ Drug Money), the second announcement turns this huge event into a ginormous one!! The following acts have been added to the line up: British India, Le Tigre's JD Samson from New York, party maestro's bLuejuice, electronic party wiz Spod, Gerling's electro-party dude The E.L.F., indie nice guys (and girl) The Devoted Few, and a whole whackload more awesome DJs, including: 2onajoyride, Bad Ezzy (Hoops), Mixtape Mafia, Ben Lucid, Coco & Shambles and Cassette.
For those that don't know Purple Sneakers NYE House Party is exactly what it says it is. It's one big huge massive house party!! It's a 3 storey, 3 bar, 4 stage, house party where people party in stairways, hallways, toilets, balconies and of course the lounge room!! It even has a TV room playing classics like BIG, Weekend at Bernie's and 16 Candles. And the best part is that you won't have to clean up when it's done!!
With the world in financial crisis Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party is helping people party cheaper and easier. Manning House at Sydney Uni is the perfect location for a New Years Eve party. It has the convenience of being in the middle of Sydney. There's loads of parking and public transport options. And best part is that you get to avoid the hassle of going into the city and dealing with squillions of douchebags on the streets. Why would you want to go anywhere else to party?
You know exactly where you're gonna be this Purple Sneakers New Years Eve...

Meet the bands & DJs playing at the Purple Sneakers NYE House Party...
THE TEENAGERS (France) (www.myspace.com/theteenagers)
Say hello to The Teenagers from Paris. These naughty French-accented scene-dwellers are a staple in the London party scene and definitely know how to bring the fun. Check out youtube for evidence of stage invasions and film clips filled with models, young boys and language warnings. Touring off the back of debut LP ‘Reality Check' (which is already an indie classic) their last visit to Australia resulted in sell out shows and Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House party is the only place you will be able to see them play in Sydney.
BRITISH INDIA (www.myspace.com/britishindia)
A few years ago British India were like child prodigies or something. They were these teenage dudes from Melbourne producing indie hits under the radar of the main stream. Then bit by bit they grew up and without making a big deal of it they became Australian indie superstars. Doing it all themselves without the help of a major record label they have a top ten album to their name and can headline just about any festival these days. We've heard the term ‘explosive' bandied about in regard to their live show and it's true. Prepare British India to explode like firecrackers on New Years Eve. Bam!!
FRIGHTENED RABBIT (UK) (www.myspace.com/frightenedrabbit)
Hot new Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit visit Australia for the first time and play their only Sydney show at Purple Sneakers New Years Eve. These guys have been on everybody's lips (including those of Pitchfork and NME) since the release of their second record ‘The Midnight Organ Fight' and have been compared to bands ranging from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to Snow Patrol. The album is through cult UK label Fat Cat Records (home to Sigur Ros, Mice Parade etc), and was produced by super-producer Peter Katis (Interpol, Spoon, Tokyo Police Club), which is enough to make any indie trainspotter wet their pants. Frightened Rabbit breed music for the night time and the sheer quality of their moody yet uplifting songs is what will soon make them one of those ‘where did they come from?' viral superstars.
SPARKADIA (www.myspace.com/sparkadia)
Fresh from playing shows across the UK Festival circuit including Glastonbury Festival, T in the Park, Oxegen, and V Festival as well as earlier dates with Jimmy Eat World, Vampire Weekend and The Thrills, Sparkadia are set to become one of Australia's biggest bands very soon. On the album front, featuring not one, not two, not three, but four tracks highly rotated by Triple Sparkadia's debut album 'Postcards' is regarded by many critics as one of the albums of the year. Seeing this band on their home turf just before midnight on New Years Eve will be a spectacle.
BLUEJUICE (www.myspace.com/bluejuice)
A shortened bio for bLuejuice goes something like this... In 1984 bLuejuice rose from the ashes of one of Australia's favourite pop bands, Sherbet. After singer Daryl Braithwaite left to pursue his solo career, the band found themselves struggling with significant gambling and narcotic debts. Although ‘Howzat' was an international hit, the royalties dried up and the boys were getting desperate. One night in Bangkok changed all that. Drummer Ned Molesworth, keyboardist Jerry Craib and bass player Jamie Cibej found themselves in a seedy strip club when they chanced a meeting that would change their lives. Without warning, two of the most beautiful female impersonators took to the stage and hypnotised the audience with a slow, seductive snake-dance. The boys were speechless. The she-males were wanton, blistering. The audience rushed the stage, and the lady-boys took a back door out. Jerry was waiting, and ushered them into a tuk-tuk. Plying them with opium and the promise of clean, safe gender-realignment surgery, he coaxed Xinxui (now Jake Stone) and Pataks (now Stav) back to Sydney, Australia. Rehearsals for the new band began in earnest, and bluejuice was born.
JD SAMSON (New York) (www.myspace.com/djjdsamson)
Not only is she the beat-making part of Le Tigre, playing keys and other stuff, but JD Samson is one of the best indie party DJs in the world (ask PhDJ, he swears by that statement!). JD Samson is an icon of nerdy cool. Her side projects include playing in Peaches' band Herms, working as part of a remix duo MEN (with Johanna from le Tigre) and is also a co-founder of the conceptual dance group "Dykes Can Dance," which performs unannounced, choreographed dance routines around New York in an attempt to break the stereotype of lesbians as bad dancers. JD Samson is awesome!! You may have also seen her in THAT Ladyhawke film clip!!
THE E.L.F. (www.myspace.com/theelff)
We just did a search for what the interweb says about The E.L.F., and aside from a super-awesome review on Pitchfork (nice one!) it says this: "The E.L.F. is the new side project of Gerling frontman, Darren Cross. A genre agnostic, Cross throws a tantrum on "Stevie Nicks Hearts," the first EP created el solo in the dark underbelly of his Sydney home studio. The indie-infused aesthetic smashes itself against the wall, whilst '80s synth-beats get thrown across the room like a bad break up. It's like Beck made babies with Dannii Minogue, and the chubby new born is strange looking yet surprisingly adorable." - Adorable? I'd say freakin-well hot-tastic!! Anyone who has seen him lay hand on mic, or deck, or both, would know why they say "PARTY is his middle name!!!".
teenagersintokyo (www.myspace.com/teenagersintokyo)
teenagersintokyo are currently locked away in a songwriting and demoing frenzy for their long player to be released next year on UK label Back Yard Recordings (home to the Gossip). New Years Eve will probably be the first time we'll hear the new material alongside the already classic tracks off the ‘Very Vampyr' EP.
SPOD (www.myspace.com/spod)
Did someone say party??? Get your f%ck on! It's Spod!!! This dude knows a party when he sees one. And if it's not there he makes it one!!! This recent Brag cover star plays synths, gameboys, cats and whatever he can get his hands on. With his band the Orsumators and his lady dance gang the Orsumettes he will be partying and sexualising Sneakers NYE like it's his own house party!!!! Taste the radness!!
YVES KLEIN BLUE (www.myspace.com/yveskleinbluemusic)
Yves Klein Blue released their debut EP ‘Draw Attention To Themselves' and toured with Biffy Clyro, The Fratellis, Tokyo Police Club, VHS or Beta to name but a few. For anyone who hasn't seen these guys NYE is probably the best time to see this indie party band who will no doubt be huge in 2009.
THE DEVOTED FEW (www.myspace.com/thedevotedfew)
Currently boasting a track on high rotation on Triple J The Devoted Few have waited quite some time to release their next record but it's gonna be a beauty. It's called ‘Baby You're A Vampire' and Purple Sneakers New Years Eve is your first opportunity to hear the new stuff coming from these guys who've supported Augie March, Something For Kate, The Fiery Furnaces, The Thrills, Sarah Blasko and Eskimo Joe.
THE JEZABELS (www.myspace.com/jezabelsband)
There's only one word to describe the music of this band - BEAUTIFUL. Get involved. Now!! The band is currently recording their debut EP, we hope that it includes FBi favourite ‘Disco Biscuit Love'.
DEPT. (www.myspace.com/deptdot)
Dept. (pronounced "di¬pärtmÉ™nt") is the production project of two music production geeks PhDJ and Black Anthony. Having only worked together a few months in that sort time the duo has been invited to rework tracks for international acts Walter Meego, Yacht, and Pop Levi, as well as having finished remixes for locals Sneaky Sound System, Dukes of Windsor, Sparkadia, bLuejuice and The Dirty Secrets. The duo's portfolio is beginning to take some serious shape (unlike their biceps) and New Years Eve sees them taking a live format to their music that includes an MC, keytar and live instrumentation.
MC GAFF E & DJ DRUG MONEY (www.myspace.com/mcgaffe)
MC Gaff E has spent the greater part of 2008 touring the world and playing parties in London, New York and everywhere in between. Saying that MC Gaff E (nicknamed Gaffy) has one of the more original live shows around is an understatement - 2 metre snakes, leopard print and bulls heads anyone?? In just under 30 minutes you will see more costume changes than at New York Fashion week. And all that time she is rapping fun potty-mouth lyrics over beats bounced by DJ Drugmoney and dancing alongside her dancer Vanessa. Check it.
PhDJ (www.myspace.com/welovephdj)
Having spent another 12 months quietly going about his job of world domination, aside from touring Australia with bLuejuice (and breaking Jake Stone's leg along the way) PhDJ spent 6 weeks of the Northern Summer in the UK. Touring with Sparkadia and playing his own shows at large London clubs like 333 and Club NME (as well as once again playing notorious London scenester hangs like The Social, Barfly and Old Blue Last) PhDJ is bit by bit making international inroads. Year 2009 will see PhDJ taking up a London residency and touring the US and Europe. But before that there is a certain House Party to rock the fuck out of!!!!
PURPLE SNEAKERS DJS (www.purplesneakers.com.au)
Kicking their own goals Purple Sneakers DJs Vivienne Kingswood, Walkie Talkie, Nick Findlay and DJ Fle have not only kept Purple Sneakers the busiest and most fun club in the Southern hemisphere (yes, more fun than any place in Brazil!) but they have also been kicking out jams and panties at festivals and club shows all around the country. Purple Sneakers DJs are the highest profile indie party DJs in the country, mashing up everything and anything from rock, hip hop, indie, electro, disco, punk, Baltimore, and any other left of centre party shit that they dig up. This New Years Eve won't be a stone left unturned in their mission to make the mofo House Party lounge room dance floor packed to the (literal) rafters!!
SOFT TIGERS FOOD FIGHT (www.myspace.com/softtigers)
We all know that Soft Tigers are a party band!!! But it's a little known fact that they are also party DJs. And good ones at that! With a slew of Triple J hits in the past 12 months (including everyone's favourite ode to Mr Whippy ‘Mr Ice Cream') they packed their record bags (packing some disco, pop, rave, punk, funk, and even some of their own) and recently toured the UK, US and Japan as part of a DJ odyssey playing hipster clubs in new York, Tokyo and London. Now they are bringing the party to Purple Sneakers New Years Eve.
THE PARTY DJS
This year for Purple Sneakers New Years Eve we have done our best to choose the best mix of up and coming DJs that Sydney has to offer. From the booty-shakingest Hoops DJ gal of them all Bad Ezzy (www.myspace.com/badezzy), to one of the best up and coming Sydney indie party guys Ben Lucid (www.myspace.com/benlucid) we have them all. Cassette (www.myspace.com/cestcassette) has been spinning records for no longer than 12 months and already she has played the hottest digs in town. Meanwhile 2onajoyride (www.myspace.com/2onajoyride) is making a name for himself in every party circle. He has played every party from Sounds on Sunday to Purple Sneakers and back. He also spins for hip hop crew Spit Syndicate. Coco & Shambles have been partying for some years now, and we mean partying (spending more time under the decks than on them), but we have it on good authority that they are about to take the DJ biz seriously, so watch out. And last but DEFINITELY not least we present Mixtape Mafia (www.myspace.com/chmtm) who are the resident dudes at Sosueme, and they got the party mashup thing down like you wouldn't believe!!!
